According to The Verge, President Trump is considering signing an executive order as early as Friday that would grant the federal government unilateral authority to regulate artificial intelligence, including the establishment of an "AI Litigation Special Task Force" overseen by the Attorney General, whose sole responsibility would be to challenge state laws on artificial intelligence. A draft of the order shows that the task force would have the authority to sue state governments deemed to be hindering the development of the AI industry.
